The Okanagan Lifestyle

 

The Okanagan is a beautiful place to live; this region boasts lakes, beaches, orchards, vineyards, excellent golf and spectacular weather.

There is always something for everyone.

The current population of the Okanagan area is somewhere around 300,000 and covers an area of at least 20,000 square kilometers. There are three major cities in the Okanagan: Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton. Kelowna's population is around the 100,000 mark - by far the biggest city in the Okanagan. Vernon's population is about 33,000 and Penticton boasts a population of about 31,000.

There are so many activities for people of all ages in the Okanagan. In the summer there is boating, water skiing, parasailing, hiking, biking, in-line skating, fishing, houseboat tours, and golfing. Not to mention the endless arrangement of fairs and festivals. In the winter, there is cross-country skiing, down-hill skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing.

There is everything from championship layout courses to low priced executive courses. There are also several golf course communities sprinkled throughout the Okanagan.

There are several prominent ski hills located throughout the Okanagan. In fact, Big White, B.C.'s second largest alpine ski and snowboard area is a 'hot spot' in the winter time with Okanagan residents. As you can see, it would be difficult not to make it up to the ski hill during the winter months.

One of the favorite past times of Okanagan residents as well as tourists, is visiting the various wineries located throughout the Okanagan. There are over forty wineries and many of these produce world class vintage wines.
